An initial assessment of satellite data for California lakes showed good agreement with known bloom conditions (Stumpf et al., 2017), but some false positive readings may exist based on unique environmental conditions for some California water bodies. For example, due to apparent interference high elevation lakes analysis was limited until a review by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientists can provide any needed corrections to the data. Until then, the satellite data should be considered provisional and used with caution.\n",
