Service Description: Domestic drinking water wells, especially those in agricultural areas, are susceptable to nitrate contramination from septic systems, fertilizer application, animal operations and other potentially contaminating activities. The California Department of Public Health and county health agencies routinely sample domestic drinking water wells for contamination. This map service represents wells which have been sampled between 2000 and 2014 for nitrate contamination and indicates those wells with a detection of nitrate above the maximum contaminant level. In order to protect owner privacy, the wells will only display at a maximum scale of 1:250000.
