Description: <div>This point layer marks recycled water percolation (spreading) basins in the Santa Ana Region (Region 8). At these basins, recycled or purified water is spread and allowed to percolate into the underlying groundwater, as opposed to direct injection by well.</div><div><br /></div><div>Purpose: Shows where recycled water in Region 8 is recharged to groundwater by surface percolation, supporting the Recycled Water Facilities Region 8 map.</div><div><br /></div><div>Who benefits: Water Board staff, partner agencies, and the public looking to see where recycled water is recharged into local aquifers in Region 8.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Source and method: This is a compiled layer built from more than one source, with each point's origin recorded in its attributes. The Orange County Water District (OCWD) basins are recharge basins in the Anaheim Forebay (Kraemer, Miller, Miraloma, and La Palma) that receive purified recycled water from the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) and the Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF) in Fountain Valley, percolating into the Coastal Plain of Orange County groundwater basin. The Weaver Basins are a regional facility, part of EVWD's Regional Recycled Water System, designed to receive tertiary treated recycled water from the Sterling Natural Resource Center (SNRC) Groundwater Replenishment Project for groundwater replenishment by surface application to the Bunker Hill-B Groundwater Management Zone. Point locations were identified in Google Earth, by place name or by navigating to the basin, and the resulting latitude/longitude coordinates were entered into a feature layer in ArcGIS. Points are representative locations for each basin. Coordinates are referenced to the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS 1984) geographic coordinate system (decimal degrees).</div><div><br /></div><div>Limitations: Each point is a single representative location standing in for a basin or basin complex and does not capture the full footprint. Coordinates are approximate and not survey grade. The Weaver Basins and the SNRC Groundwater Replenishment Project are part of a regional effort whose recycled water permitting was still in progress as of this writing, so that recharge is shown as planned or developing rather than as a fully permitted operating discharge. Some basins receive water from more than one source, so they are best shown as recharge facilities rather than dedicated outfalls of any single project.
