Description: Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Policy: Tier 3 – Impaired Areas Existing, new, and replacement Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) in specified areas adjacent to water bodies that
are identified by the State Water Board as impaired for pathogens or nitrogen may be
addressed by a TMDL and its implementation program, or special provisions
contained in a Local Agency Management Program. If there is no TMDL or special
provisions, new or replacement OWTS within 600 feet of impaired water bodies
listed in Attachment 2 must meet the specific requirements of Tier 3. Policy reference page 39.Water bodies that are identified by the State Water Board as impaired for pathogens or nitrogen are indicated in the color orange on the 2023 OWTS Policy Renewal Impaired Waterbody Map Tool. Additional information relating to OWTS impaired waterbodies can be found in Attachment 2, page 51, of the April 18, 2023 Board adopted OWTS Policy.
