Service Description: In specific areas of the California, On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS, aka 'septic systems') are known to be contributing to water quality problems. The State Water Board is required by law to adopt statewide standards for OWTS.
Certain requirements pertain to waters listed in Attachment 2 of the Policy. These waters have been identified by the State and Regional Water Boards as impaired by pathogens and/or nutrients for which septic systems are suspected to be a contributing factor. Septic systems within 600 feet of these waters may be subject to supplemental treatment requirements. See https://www.waterboards.ca.gov/water_issues/programs/owts/ for more information.
